Awestruck.

This morning, David was in the (packed) West Newton church with some other schoolmates for the Queen's visit there. Lily and I were waiting outside with the other onlookers. We brought snowdrops from our garden for the Queen, who stopped to take them from Lily and spoke to her. She smiled, and in her lovely voice, she asked Lily, "Did you pick these yourself?" Lily was awestruck. And dumbstruck. What a moment!

Amazing. You and she will always remember this. My friend is a US journalist who has been interviewing some of the presidential candidates. I think it would be neat if one of the people she has interviewed wins.

Oh, what a magical moment, and what a fabulous picture. I've been to West newton church whilst the Queen was there (hmm, must have been back in about 1976 or 1977, as one of my schoolfriendnds lived in West Newton) but I've never been so close as that.

That is one of the nicest things about England --the Queen is a class act. I do think that she just genuinely likes children. Plus, whenever she's in that part of England she just seems more mortal human and likeable. Probably it's because she's more relaxed whenever she's out there.
